A little bit About Me...

Who is that Ian Ellery bloke anyway?

Well, I'm a freelance Illustrator based in Hastings on the South Coast of England. I have been involved in the world of Illustration, Cartooning and Design since I left college in 1983 (and a few years before too!).

I was proud to be elected Chairman of the Cartoonists' Club of Great Britain for six years running.

Recent Work

I have recently been involved in several very interesting Illustration projects. I illustrated a fantastic 'Noddy' pop-up book for London based agency 'Brushfire' (now known as Threefold) and am helping develop several other Pop-up projects. I illustrated an English-Language course for 'Hackers', a South Korean publishing company. I am currently developing my caricature portrait skills and am also illustrating a lot of Pet portraits. I am also writing a new, totally mad, childrens' comedy adventure called 'Ellie Mental'.

Past Work

Over the years, as well as being an Illustrator I have been an Art Director, Creative Director and Computer Games designer. Back in the mists of time, two of my games (the Rocky Horror Show and Blade Runner) even got to No.1 in the charts on both sides of the Atlantic!

I've been freelance now for 20 years, illustrating and cartooning for books, magazines, websites, greetings cards and many other things that have been thrown at me. I am a long standing member of the Professional Cartoonists Organisation and a Committee Member and Webmaster for the Cartoonists' Club of Great Britain.

Television

With my writing partner Guy Hallifax I have created and designed several educational shows for the BBC including Spelling with the Spellits and Captain Calamity. They are used extensively by BBC Childrens' Education on TV and the web, joining previous creations Addem and the Ants and many more fun characters and animations.

Currently in development are the new CGI animated TV series' 'Gododo' and 'Snapper' and the live action kids' fantasy series 'Me and my Shadow'. A few years ago we created the animated show Slim Pig which was made by The Children's Television Workshop. A second series is currently in production. We also recently worked on a pilot for a new mad-cap animated show 'Food Chain' for Warner Bros. USA.
